Goes tigrinus (Degeer 1775)

Found in the eastern United States, ranging from New York in the north down to Florida and as far west as Louisiana and Michigan. It occurs in forests containing white oak (Quercus alba) and overcup oak (Q. lyrata).

Adults are 22-44 mm in length, with a mixture of dark brown and white coloration. There is a dark band a little over half way down the elytra (hardened forewing). As with other members of the Family Cerambycidae (the longhorn beetles), they have long antennae that would extend beyond the end of the abdomen if laid flat.

Adult beetles forage on leaves and twigs during the spring and summer. Females lay eggs in the bark of white and overcup oak trees, and several females often lay eggs within the same brood tree. Developing larvae burrow into the tree, causing sap and frass to exit the entrance hole in the bark.

Lives within forest habitat in the eastern United States containing white oak (Quercus alba) and overcup oak (Q. lyrata). Adults often come to porch lights during the spring and summer months.
