However, because this species shows sexual dimorphism, has a relatively flatter shape, and has a jagged posterior edge of its oral disc, it was placed in the genus Aphanotorulus.[3][4] A. ammophilus reaches 16.1 cm (6.3 inches) SL.[4]

Aphanotorulus ammophilus is een straalvinnige vissensoort uit de familie van de harnasmeervallen (Loricariidae).[1] De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1996 door Armbruster & Page.

Забарвлення світло-сіре. Тулубом і плавцями розкидано дрібні чорні плями, звідки походять інші назви цього сома.
Є дентопелагічною рибою. Воліє до чистої води. зустрічається у річках з середньою течією та піщаним ґрунтом. Вдень ховається під корчами. Активна в присмерку та вночі. Живиться ракоподібними та дрібними водними організмами.
У самця під час нересту на задній частині тіла з'являються характерні щетина.
Мешкає у басейні річки Португеза (Венесуела).
喜砂筆甲鯰，為輻鰭魚綱鯰形目甲鯰科的其中一種，為熱帶淡水魚，分布於南美洲委內瑞拉Portuguesa河流域，體長可達16.1公分，棲息在底層水域，生活習性不明。
