Fissidens bogoriensis Fleischer 1904

Plants very small, green to dull green. Leafy stems very short, mostly simple, rarely branched, 0.5–2.3 mm long, 0.4–2.5 mm wide; axillary hyaline nodules not differentiated; cortical cells large and thin-walled, central strand slightly differentiated. Leaves in 2–6 pairs, densely arranged, lower leaves small, upper leaves much larger, lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, 0.7–1.6 mm × 0.1–0.4 mm; margins almost entire to slightly crenulate, often bordered by 1–2 rows of elongate and more or less thick-walled cells, borders usually weak and often intralaminar, more often without differentiated borders; costa usually ending far below leaf apex, but sometimes reaching near apex, especially on perichaetial leaves; cells of apical and dorsal laminae lax, quadrate to hexagonal, thin-walled, 19–44 µm long; cells of vaginant laminae longer, up to 80 µm long at the base. Autoicous. Male inflorescences at base of stems. Archegonia terminal, 190–220 µm long. Setae 0.9–5.0 mm long, smooth; capsules usually horizontal, more or less asymmetrical; urns 0.5 mm long; opercula long rostrate, 0.3–0.6 mm long; exothecial cells quadrate to rectangular, thin-walled, with strongly thickened corners; peristome teeth 0.20–0.25 mm long, 20–25 µm wide at base, distinctly spirally thickened on the upper 3/4, often with scattered large papillae at middle, minutely papillose below. Calyptrae campanulate, 0.3–0.6 mm long, smooth. Spores 8–14(–16) µm in diameter, nearly smooth.

Distribution: China, Japan, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

Habitat: on wet soil, rarely on rocks.
