Serritermitidae is a family of termites belonging to the infraorder Isoptera in the order Blattodea.[2] The family includes only a few species, which live in South America.
These termites are much like the family Rhinotermitidae, to which they are related. The soldiers' jaws are sharply toothed on the inner side. At all stages, the mandible is strikingly sharp. The flying stages have fore wings with only one lengdeåre, slightly ahead of the center of the wing. From this it affects numerous oblique veins to the wing trailing edge.
They are located in or on the ground. Their mode of life resembles the family Rhinotermitidae. Serritermes serrifer lives in the walls of the tufts of termites in the genus Cornitermes (Termitidae).
S. serresi is known from the states of Minas Gerais and Mato Grosso, Brazil. The two Glossotermes species are known only from the Amazon region of Brazil.

Disse termittene ligner mye på familien Rhinotermitidae, som de er beslektet med. De kan kjennes på at soldatenes kjever er kraftig tannede på innersiden. Hos alle stadier er mandiblene påfallende spisse. De flygende stadiene har forvinger med bare én lengdeåre, litt foran midten av vingen. Fra denne går det ut tallrike skrå-årer til vingens bakkant.
Tuene ligger i eller på bakken. I levevis ligner den mye på familien Rhinotermitidae. Serritermes serrifer lever i veggene til tuene av termitter i slekten Cornitermes (Termitidae).
Serritermes serresi er kjent fra delstatene Minas Gerais og Mato Grosso i Brasil. De to Glossotermes-artene er også bare kjent fra Amazonas-området i Brasil.

Serritermitidae (лат.) — семейство термитов, одно из самых малочисленных среди этих общественных насекомых. Около 3 видов.
Мелкие термиты: 4—5 мм (одни из самых мелких в отряде). Усики из 13—14 члеников. Гнезда строят в земле. Вид Serritermes serrifer обитает в стенах термитников рода Cornitermes (Termitidae). В целом эти термиты очень похожи на представителей семейства Rhinotermitidae.
Статус семейства долгое время оспаривался. Сначала Holmgren (1911)[3] поместил вид Serritermes serrifer в качестве единственного тогда вида подсемейства Serritermitinae в состав семейства Rhinotermitidae, затем Ahamad (1950)[4] поместил его в состав Termitidae. И только в 1965 году род был выделен (Emerson, 1965) в отдельное семейство, но для одного вида Serritermes serrifer. Род Glossotermes ранее также относили к другой группе термитов (Psammotermitinae, Rhinotermitidae).

Holmgren把它放在鼻白蚁科的齿白蚁亚科，Ahmad将齿白蚁亚科自白蚁亚科中移到白蚁科的个亚科。最后Emerson认为齿白蚁亚科的成虫上颚具特大端齿、非常大的切缘和仅有一个缘齿以及兵蚁上颚内缘的全缘具锯齿的特殊性，放在鼻白蚁科或白蚁科中都不适宜，应单独设立齿白蚁科这一观点已被世界各国白蚁分类学家所认同。该科有工蚁品级。
有翅成虫有囟，左上颚具特次端齿，非常大的切缘，仅有一个缘齿；右上颚无附属齿；前翅鳞远大于后翅鳞。
