It grows four to five feet (1.2 to 1.5 m) tall, with creamy white flowers in cylindrical spikes, appearing from summer into autumn.[1]

Es originaria de América del Norte, donde crece en las ciénagas, pantanos y bordes de la carretera desde el Labrador hasta Georgia.
Alcanza una altura de 120 cm tiene las flores blancas que crecen en espigas cilíndricas. A diferencia de sus parientes cercanos, Sanguisorba officinalis y Sanguisorba minor, las hojas deben ser cocinadas para comerlas, con el fin de eliminar el amargor.[1]
Sanguisorba canadensis fue descrita por Carlos Linneo y publicado en Species Plantarum 1: 117, en el año 1753.[2]
Sanguisorba: nombre genérico que deriva, probablemente, de la palabra latina sanguis refiriéndose a la capacidad de esta planta para frenar la hemorragia.
canadensis: epíteto geográfico que alude a su localización en Canadá.

La tige longue de 30 à 200 cm se termine par un épi floral fleurissant en été de la base au sommet ; les feuilles comportent 7 à 17 folioles et sont finement denticulées.

Elle est très abondante et commune dans tout l'est du Québec, jusqu'au comté de Portneuf alors qu'elle est rare dans la région de Montréal.
