Esenbeckia macrantha Rose, Contr. U. S. Nat Herb. 5: 111. 1897. A tree 4.5-6 m. high, the young branches and inflorescence hirsutulous ; leaves digitately 3-foliolate, alternate, long-petioled ; leaflets oblong to lance-elliptic, 15-20 cm. long, 5-7.5 cm. broad, short-acuminate at the apex, somewhat oblique at the base, green and lustrous above, paler and hirsutulous beneath, strongly veined ; inflorescence paniculate ; flowers 8.5-10 mm. broad ; sepals broadly ovate to orbicular or broadly triangular ; petals oblong-ovate to ovate. 5-5.5 mm. long, fleshy; filaments accumbent in the shallow grooves of the disk ; disk large, 3.S-4.1 mm. in diameter; fruit not seen.
Type locality : Canyon along wagon road six miles above Dominguillo, state of Oaxaca. Distribution : Southern Mexico.
