Eulophia hians var. hians

Terrestrial herb, 25 - 75 cm tall. Leaves 5-6, linear, up to 75 cm long, just developing at time of flowering (in this variety). Inflorescence laxly few to many-flowered. Flowers somewhat drooping, not opening wide, often self-pollinating. Sepals deep plum-purple; petals pale lilac-blue. Lip 3-lobed with dark purple, spreading veins on the side lobes; mid lobe with a yellow crest of papillae. Spur not swollen, 4-7 mm long, slightly incurved.
Easily distinguished from var. inaequalis and var. nutans by the flower colour, which is greenish-yellow to yellow in those varieties.
