Cereus stenogonus ist eine Pflanzenart in der Gattung Cereus aus der Familie der Kakteengewächse (Cactaceae). Das Artepitheton stenogonus bedeutet ‚mit schmalen Rippen‘.
Cereus stenogonus wächst baumförmig mit spärlichen bis reich verzweigten, aufrechten Trieben und erreicht Wuchshöhen von bis zu 8 Meter. Es ist ein deutlicher, stark bedornter Stamm vorhanden. Die zylindrischen, blaugrünen Triebe sind später hell glaukgrün und weisen Durchmesser von 6 bis 9 Zentimeter auf. Es sind vier bis fünf tief gekerbte, hohe Rippen vorhanden. Die in den Einkerbungen sitzenden Areolen stehen weit voneinander entfernt. Die aus ihnen entspringenden meist drei bis vier, spreizenden, konischen Dornen sind an ihrer Basis dick bis zwiebelförmig. Sie sind gelb mit einer schwarzen Spitze oder schwarz und bis zu 7 Millimeter lang.
Die etwas rosafarbenen Blüten sind 20 bis 22 Zentimeter lang. Die bis zu 10 Zentimeter langen, eiförmigen Früchte sind rot. Sie enthalten ein rotes Fruchtfleisch.
Cereus stenogonus ist in Brasilien, Mato Grosso do Sul[1], Paraguay sowie den argentinischen Provinzen Chaco, Corrientes und Misiones bis in 500 Metern Meereshöhe verbreitet.
Die Erstbeschreibung wurde 1899 von Karl Moritz Schumann veröffentlicht.[2] Ein nomenklatorisches Synonym ist Piptanthocereus stenogonus (K.Schum.) F.Ritter (1979).
In der Roten Liste gefährdeter Arten der IUCN wird die Art als „Least Concern (LC)“, d. h. als nicht gefährdet geführt.[3]

Cereus stenogonus grows tree-like with sparse to richly branched, upright shoots and reaches heights of up to 8 meters. There is a clear, heavily thorn trunk. The cylindrical, blue-green shoots are later light glaucous green and have a diameter of 6 to 9 centimeters. There are four to five deeply notched, high ribs . The areoles sitting in the notches are far apart. The usually three to four spreading, conical thorns emerging from them are thick to onion-shaped at their base. They are yellow with a black tip or black and up to 7 millimeters long.[2]
The slightly pink flowers are 20 to 22 centimeters long. The egg-shaped fruits are up to 10 centimeters long and red. They contain a red pulp.

Es un cactus arbolado de hasta 8 m de altura con 4 a 5 costillas y con 2 a 3 espinas de 0,7 cm de largo. Tiene las flores de color blanco de hasta 22 cm de largo, seguido por frutas rojas de 10 cm de largo. Se reproduce por semillas o esquejes.[2]
Cereus stenogonus fue descrita por K.Schum. y publicado en Monatsschrift für Kakteenkunde 9: 165. 1899.[3]
Cereus: nombre genérico que deriva del término latíno cereus = "cirio o vela" que alude a su forma alargada, perfectamente recta".
