DISTRIBUTION: Described from the antarctic continent at 89°E, B. simillima has also been recorded from off Kerguelen Island (150 m) and from the Ross Sea. The present collections extend its range in the Ross Sea in depths of 188-600 m.
REMARKS: Six specimens, not all adult, have been examined from the Ross Sea. These match Thiele's figure of P. simillima reasonably well. Some additional information on the sculpture of this species can be added to Thiele's description based upon the Ross Sea material. The axial ribs are broad and highly curved following the growth lines, 9-12 in number. Spire whorls with three spiral cords, penultimate whorl with three spiral cords on the ramp and 10 across the rest of the whorl. On the last whorl there are three spiral cords on the ramp and 45 across the rest of the whorl, base and canal. The protoconch is of 2½ whorls, sculptured with what appear to be microscopic spiral threads crossed by similarly fine axial riblets, quite unlike that of Pleurotomella (s.str.).”

This marine species occurs in the Weddell Sea, Antarctica and off Visokoi Island, SE of island, South Sandwich Islands, South Atlantic Ocean at a depth between 93 m and 600 m.
