Straneck's tyrannulet (Serpophaga griseicapilla), also known as the monte tyrannulet and grey-crowned tyrannulet, is a small species of bird in the family Tyrannidae. It is found in woodland and open habitats with scatted bushes and trees in south-central South America, but the details are still unclear. It breeds in Argentina, but may also breed in Bolivia. In addition to these countries, it has been recorded as a non-breeding visitor in Paraguay, and possibly Brazil and Uruguay (it is unclear if it is a regular non-breeding visitor or only an accidental visitor to the last two countries). Visually it closely resembles the white-crested tyrannulet, but its voice is distinctive and its tail shorter. Considerable taxonomic confusion has surrounded this species, which for a period mistakenly was referred to by the scientific name Serpophaga griseiceps, a junior synonym of Serpophaga munda. Consequently, the Straneck's tyrannulet only received its scientific name in 2007 despite having been known since the early 1990s.

L'espèce Serpophaga griseicapilla a été décrite en 2007 par l'ornithologue argentin Roberto Juan Straneck (d)[4]. Elle est monotypique selon la classification de référence du Congrès ornithologique international (version 9.1, 2019)[5].
Cet oiseau est principalement gris. Sa tête est grise et, d'ailleurs, l'épithète spécifique griseicapilla de son nom binominal (cheveux gris en latin) vient de la couleur grise de sa couronne, même si celle des spécimens adultes possède également quelques plumes noires dont la base, blanche, est majoritairement couverte, donc non visible. Cette espèce possède une tache blanche pré- et post-oculaire. Le dos et le croupion sont d'un brun légèrement olivâtre. La gorge et la partie antérieure du cou sont blanc-grisâtre virant sur le jaune sale, puis sur le jaune pâle sur la zone ventrale et subcaudale, même si des spécimens présentant très peu de jaune sur le ventre (qui peut même être blanc dans les régions ventrale et subcaudale) ont été observés au nord et à l'ouest de l'Argentine, dans les provinces de Mendoza et de Salta. Les ailes et la queue sont brunes, avec des plumes finement bordées de blanc sale ; les extrémités des tectrices forment deux bandes de couleur cannelle clair[4].
Cet oiseau vit en Argentine, au Paraguay, en Uruguay et au sud du Brésil. Il migre vers l'est en dehors de la période de reproduction[2],[3],[4],[6].
