Arthroleptis is a genus of frogs in the family Arthroleptidae found in tropical sub-Saharan Africa.[1][2] Their common names include screeching frogs, sometimes simply squeakers.[1]

Description

These species are terrestrial breeding, with direct development (metamorphosis to froglets occurs within the egg). Many species in this genus are small, or very small, frogs with a minimum adult size of 15 mm (0.59 in) snout-vent length.[3] The largest species (Arthroleptis nikeae and Arthroleptis tanneri) reach body lengths around 55 mm (2.2 in). It was hypothesized that small species evolved from larger ones, but in fact the opposite seems to be case.[2]

Arthroleptis species are terrestrial leaf-litter frogs that feed on a range of terrestrial arthropods, such as ants and termites.[2]

Загальна довжина представників цього роду коливається від 3 до 8 см. Голова середнього розміру. Морда майже трикутна. Над очима є великі дуги. Третій палець сильно подовжено. Очі з горизонтальними зіницями. Забарвлення коричневе, червонувате, бурувате. Черево, зазвичай світліше за спину.

Спосіб життя

Полюбляють савани, рідколісся, луки. Значний час ховаються у лісовій підстилці. Активні вночі. Живляться безхребетними.

Це яйцекладні амфібії. На відміну від інших представників цієї родини мають пуголовок.

Розповсюдження

Мешкають на південь від пустелі Сахара (Африка).

Пискуньи[1] (лат. Arthroleptis) — род бесхвостых земноводных из одноимённого семейства, обитающих в тропической Африке.

Описание

Общая длина представителей этого рода колеблется от 15 до 55 мм. Голова среднего размера, морда почти треугольная. Глаза с горизонтальными зрачками, над глазами есть большие дуги. Третий палец сильно удлинён.

Окраска коричневая, красноватая, буроватая. Брюхо обычно светлее спины.

Образ жизни

Населяют саванны, редколесья, луга. Большую часть времени прячутся в лесной подстилке. Активны ночью, питаются наземными членистоногими — такими, как муравьи и термиты.

Размножение

Это яйцекладущие земноводные с прямым развитием — отсутствует фаза головастика, из яиц выходят уже сформированные лягушата.

Распространение

Обитают к югу от пустыни Сахара.
