Small to moderate sized deciduous tree. Twigs glabrous. Leaves 5-12 cm across, 3-5-lobed, (basal lobes small or absent), lobes caudate-acuminate, acumen c. 1 cm long; margins sharply serrate, glabrescent except bearded in the axils beneath; base subcordate-truncate. Petiole 5-10 cm long, slender, pubescent, often reddish. Inflorescence racemose, glabrous, the perfect or pistillate terminal on leafy shoots, the staminate on leafless lateral shoots. Flowers 4-merous, 5 mm across, greenish. Sepals 4, oblong, 3-4 mm long. Petals 4, ovate, shorter than sepals. Stamens 4-6, inserted outside the disc. Ovary glabrous; style long, connate halfway. Samaras glabrous, 2-3 cm long, divergent to erect, often reddish when young; nutlets rugose.

Trees small, multistemmed, to 10 m tall, dioecious. Branches often reddish, smooth, glabrous. Petiole often reddish, 5-10 cm, pubescent; leaf blade 5-12 cm wide, abaxially glabrescent except bearded in axils, primary veins 5, base subcordate-truncate, margin sharply serrate, often doubly toothed, 3- or 5-lobed; basal lobes small or absent, lobes triangular, lateral lobes usually as long as central lobe, apex caudate-acuminate, acumen ca. 1 cm. Staminate inflorescence corymbose, axillary from leafless buds; pistillate inflorescence racemose, terminal or axillary from mixed buds. Flowers greenish, 4-merous, ca. 4 mm in diam. Sepals 4, oblong, 3-4 mm. Petals 4, ovate, shorter than sepals. Stamens 4-6, inserted outside disk. Ovary glabrous; style long, connate to ca. 1/2. Infructescence 12-20 cm. Samaras 2-3 cm; nutlets rugose; wings spreading at right angle. Fl. Mar-Apr, fr. Sep.

Acer acuminatum is an Asian species of maple native to the Himalayas and neighboring mountains in Tibet, Kashmir, northern India, Nepal, and Pakistan.
Acer acuminatum is a multi-stemmed tree up to 10 meters tall. It is dioecious, meaning that male and female flowers form on separate plants. Leaves are up to 12 across, each with 3 or 5 lobes. The apexes of its leaves are both caudate and acuminate. Its infructescence ranges from 12 to 20 centimeters long.
