It is reported to feed on periphyton and microfauna that occur on the surfaces and undersides of rocks in its habitat. The species reaches 8.1 cm (3.2 inches) SL. Its specific epithet honors Chris Beggin, who supported the research of the species.[2] In the aquarium trade, this species is sometimes known by its L-number, which is L-239.[3]

El panaque azul (Baryancistrus beggini) es una especie de pez de la familia Loricariidae en el orden de los Siluriformes.
• Los machos pueden llegar alcanzar los 8,1 cm de longitud total.[3] Presentan fondo oscuro marrón a negruzco sin marcas, con brillo azuloso. Las primeras placas de la serie medioventral están fuertemente dobladas, formando una quilla por encima de las aletas pectorales a cada lado del cuerpo.[2]

Se encuentran en Sudamérica, en el alto Orinoco y las partes bajas de sus afluentes el río Guaviare en Colombia, y el río Ventuari en Venezuela.[2]

Baryancistrus beggini is een straalvinnige vissensoort uit de familie van de harnasmeervallen (Loricariidae).[1] De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 2009 door Lujan, Arce & Armbruster.

Жировий плавець маленький, поєднано зі спинним за допомогою низької мембрани. Грудні плавці великі, витягнуті, з одонтодами. Черевні плавці великі, майже дорівнюють грудним. Анальний плавець складається з 1 жорстких та 3-4 м'яких променів. Хвостовий плавець широкий, зрузано навкоси догори.
Забарвлення з переливом від суцільно-чорного і коричневого кольору з переходом до бірюзово-синього, що світяться. Одонтоди — інтенсивно-синього кольору.
Є пелагічною рибою. Воліє до прісної та чистої води. Зустрічається у річках зі швидкою течією та кам'янистим дном. Вдень ховається у порожнинах гранітних порід та серед валунів. Живляться перифітоном та пов'язаною з ним мікрофауною.
Мешкає у басейні річки Оріноко — Венесуели і Колумбії.
