Annual herbs. Leaves opposite, simple. Capitula less than 1 cm across, radiate, heterogamous. Phyllaries in 2 series, largely herbaceous, the outer much shorter, the inner with membranous margins. Ray florets female, fertile; rays few (usually 5), white, 3-lobed; disk florets bisexual, fertile, orange-yellow. Receptacle conic, with scales. Achenes narrowly obovoid. Pappus of scales, with or without terminal awns.

Galinsoga is a genus of flowering plants in the family Asteraceae.[2][4][5] It is native to North and South America and the West Indies, and naturalized in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia.[6][7]
The name Galinsoga was dedicated to Ignacio Mariano Martinez de Galinsoga, who founded the Spanish Real Academia Nacional de Medicina and was director of the Real Jardín Botánico de Madrid.[8]
