Amphidromous. Refers to fishes that regularly migrate between freshwater and the sea (in both directions), but not for the purpose of breeding, as in anadromous and catadromous species. Sub-division of diadromous. Migrations should be cyclical and predictable and cover more than 100 km.Characteristic elements in amphidromy are: reproduction in fresh water, passage to sea by newly hatched larvae, a period of feeding and growing at sea usually a few months long, return to fresh water of well-grown juveniles, a further period of feeding and growing in fresh water, followed by reproduction there (Ref. 82692).

A cryptic species occurring on sandy bottoms (Ref. 4343). Found over sand in shallow littoral areas to about 20 m depth (Ref. 7248). Buries its body in the sand, uses first dorsal fin for display and possibly as a lure to attract prey (Ref. 7248).

Die Sibayi-dikkop (Silhouettea sibayi) is 'n klein varswater vis wat voorkom in die Sibayameer en Kosimeer in KwaZulu-Natal. In Engels staan die vis bekend as die Sibayi goby.
Voorkoms
Die vis het langerige, skraal lyf met 'n platterige kop. Die eerste dorsale vin is lank en gepunt en die stertvin is bolrond. Die vis is deurskynend bleek met bruin en rooi vlekke op. Daar is ook skuins rye kolle op die lyf en 'n groot vertikale wit streep op die eerste dorsale vin. Die vis word tot 40 mm lank.
Habitat
Die vis leef oor sandbanke in water wat tot 20 m diep is. Die vis begrawe homself in die sand totdat net die eerste dorsale vin uitsteek.

Distribució geogràfica
Es troba a Àfrica: Moçambic i Sud-àfrica (KwaZulu-Natal).[6][7][4][8][9]
Estat de conservació
Es troba amenaçat d'extinció a causa de la mineria de les dunes costaneres, la construcció de ports i el desenvolupament turístic de la costa.[6]
Observacions
És inofensiu per als humans.[4]

Vissen Silhouettea sibayi is een straalvinnige vissensoort uit de familie van grondels (Gobiidae).[2] De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1970 door Farquharson.
De soort staat op de Rode Lijst van de IUCN als Bedreigd, beoordelingsjaar 2007.[1]
