Native of China, Japan, Sri Lanka, Indo-China, Malesia ecozone [Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia (Queensland)]. Mostly cultivated as ornamental. Widespread terrestrial herb; bipinnate leaves, long, narrow; clustered and spreading by runners. Habitat partially shaded conditions in the lowlands and highlands. It is the most common ingredient of traditional herbal drinks in Taiwan containing different phenolic compounds.Synonym(s):
