Robust climber, up to 8 m, reaching high into the trees, rarely prostrate along the ground or over low vegetation. Stout tendrils present. Leaves dark green rough and leathery, glabrous except for the veins, broadly ovate, 3-5 lobed; lobes triangular, acuminate with coarsely dentate margins. Flowers unisexual on different plants. Male flowers in racemes; female flowers solitary, pale to bright yellow. Fruit ovoid-oblong, up to 15 cm.
