Fulgora laternaria--this is cropped, and enhanced, from a BHL plate of Cuvier's La Regne Animal. Summary of processing:-cropped to show just the color illustration on the larger plate-rotated a little to get axis of insect vertical-a couple of printing errors and smudges cloned out-whitepoint set to background (removes yellowing of paper)-curves adjusted to enhance contrast a bit-slight increase in color saturation-downsampled from about 1600 pixel width in original scan to 1400 pixels wide-very mild unsharp mask applied (Image replaced 7/9/13 with one with cleaner background--whitepoint averaged over larger area, and background also given a Gaussian blur. I could only see the flaw on certain monitors.)
