Stromata consisting of a slender stalk 2-3 mm. high, of a grayish color, with a globose orange head 0.5-1 mm. in diameter; conidia ellipsoid, hyaline, 5-6X 2/^; perithecia in dense cespitose clusters 1-2 mm. in diameter at the base of the stalked stroma, 15-30 in each cluster, reddish, becoming pale (in dried specimens often pale-yellow), 250-300," in diameter, nearly globose, partially collapsing or entire, slightly roughened; asci cylindric, 75-80X7-8//; spores mostly 1-seriate, ellipsoid to subfusoid, hyaline, 1-septate, 10-14 X 4-6 /«, usually not constricted.
On bark of various trees and shrubs, Hicoria, Citrus, Hibiscus, Plata?ius. Type locality : Europe.
Distribution : South Carolina to Florida and Louisiana ; also in Europe.
