Perennial, closely tufted; culms erect, slender, glabrous, scabrous below the panicle, 20-40 cm. tall, the nodes at the base; sheaths glabrous; ligule 2-4 mm. long; blades subfiliform, involute, scabrous, in a basal cluster 51 5 cm. long, the single culm blade 3-5 cm. long ; panicles narrow, 5-8 cm. long, the axis scabrous, the branches appressed or ascending, rather loosely flowered, 1-2 cm. long; glumes broad, scabrous-pubcrulent, obtuse, often erose, about one third as long as the lemma; lemma obscurely pubescent below, tapering to an acuminate or awntipped point, 2.5-3 mm. long.
TvPB locality: S<xla Springs, California (Jones .103 in 1881). Distribution: Open ground, northeastern California.
