up erect to 5 tall, 3 wide; Plants: up erect to 5 tall, 3 wide; open rocky hillsides, large boulders, granite substrate, flowering stems often among Acacia greggii branches.Stems: single main stem from basal leaves; multiple stems branching about 1 foot from base, up to 12 lateral stems, few lateral stems with secondary stems.Leaves: basal and cauline. Basal leaves broadly ovate, cauline leaves narrowly ovate, upper leaves greatly reduced. Basal leaves dying at bloom (anthesis).Inflorescence: spike-like inflorescence, main stem and lateral stems all with inflorescence. Flowers: purple, deep purple flowers from spike-like inflorescence, petioles about 1 inch; 4 linear sepals, 4 petals, purple; 6 stamens 4 taller, 2 slightly shorter, anthers with yellow curl.Fruit: a silique capsule about 2 to3 inches long, erect, maturing to horizontal; about 12 seeds more or less per capsule.
