CreatureCast - Getting around when you are round

Descrição:

Henry Astley explains how brittlestars move. In the first year of his thesis research at Brown, Henry closely observed brittlestars over the course of a week at South Water Caye in Belize. The paper describing his findings, titled "Getting around when you’re round: quantitative analysis of the locomotion of the blunt-spined brittle star, Ophiocoma echinata", has just been published in the Journal of Experimental Biology (http://jeb.biologists.org/content/215/11/1923.abstract). Natividad Chen recorded, illustrated, and produced this episode. The animations were photographed at the Brown University Science Center. The song is Forward, by the band Northbound (available at http://freemusicarchive.org/). Visit http://creaturecast.org for more stories about the unexpected world of Biology. [taxonomy:binomial=Ophiocoma echinata]
