Most common in open lowland areas.

Distribucion en Costa Rica: Cartago: Turrialba. Heredia: Sarapiquí. Guanacaste: Cañas; La Cruz; Liberia. Limón: Limón; Pococí; Talamanca. Puntarenas: Aguirre; Garabito; Golfito.
Distribucion General: Nicaragua; Panama; Colombia.

Females feed on the blood of mammals, especially horses.

Immature stages unknown.

Hind tibiae without apical spurs; basicosta with strong setae as dense as on the adjoining costa, never with setae sparse; vertex rarely with a tubercle at the vertex; first antennal segment rarely enlarged and cap-like; a prominent velvety black pilose spot covering the base of the scutellum and adjoining border of the mesoscutum; wings with a long spur at the fork of veins R4 and R5; cell r5 of the wing rarely closed, never petiolate, crossveins and fork of veins R4 and R5 without clouds; mid-abdominal triangles broader than high, the posterior borders of the tergites paler and pale haired; black species with femora largely black (typical form) or reddish species with femora largely pale (pale form).

Lalek kudo dewasa mahisok nektar dan kadang-kadang sarbuak sari. Betino dari kabanyakan spesies adolah anautojenik, nan artinyo butuah mahisok darah sabalun mampu untuak bareproduksi sacaro efektif. Telua dilatakkan di ateh batu atau vegetasi biasonyo balansuang dakek jo aia misalnyo kolam ranang.
