Micranthes arnoglossa Small, sp. nov
Leaves ascending or spreading, 6-19 cm. long, the blades oblong to elliptic, sometimes narrowly so, remotely glandular-denticulate, ciliolate and sometimes sparingly pubescent, each narrowed to a dilated sheathing base ; scapes erect, typically solitary, 30-70 cm. tall, stout, glandularpubescent, sometimes closely so, rather widely paniculate above ; cjTnules aggregated into clusters terminating the inflorescence-branches ; sepals broadly ovate to deltoid, 1.5-3 mm. long, generally eciliate; petals white, mainly oblong to elliptic, 3-3.5 mm. long, with broad claw-like bases ; filaments subulate ; follicles about 4 mm. high, often purplish, the stout tips spreading or somewhat recurved.
Type collected at Marshall Pass, Colorado, July 19, 1901, by C. F. Baker, no. 509. Distribution : Montana and Idaho to Colorado.

Leaves spreading, 6-13 cm. long, the blades oblong to elliptic, remotely glandulardenticulate, glabrous or nearly so, except the ciliolate margins, the sheathing bases short ; scapes solitary, 2-4 dm. tall, sparingly glandular-pubescent, narrowly paniculate above; cj^mules aggregated at the ends of the short inflorescence-branches; sepals ovate, 1.5-2 mm. long, eciliate; petals white, oblong or nearly so, 3-3.5 mm. long, clawless; filaments subulate ; follicles 3^ mm. long, green or purplish, the very short tips spreading.
Type collected at Marlette Lake, Nevada, July 29, 1902, by C. F. Baker, no. 1395, Distribution : Colorado to Nevada.

Leaves erect or ascending, 4-20 cm. long, or sometimes longer, the blades oblong or elliptic to oblong-spatulate , remotely glandular-denticulate, sometimes sparingly pubescent and ciliolate, gradually narrowed to the dilated scarious partly sheathing base ; scapes erect, typically solitary, stout, 20-70 cm. tall, thinly glandular-pubescent, paniculate above, sometimes narrowly so ; cymules aggregated into clusters terminating the ascending or erect branches of the inflorescence; sepals deltoid to ovate, 1.5-2 mm. long, eciliate; petals white, elliptic to oblong, 2-2.5 mm. long, clawless; filaments subulate; follicles 3.5-4mm. high, often purple, the stout tips spreading.
Type locality : Headwaters of the Kern River, Tulare County, California. Distribution : Sierra Nevada mountains, California.

Leaves erect or ascending, 3-11 cm. long or longer, the blades oblong to elliptic or ovate -elliptic (greatly elongated and broadly linear to linear-spatulate on plants growing in water), crenulate or minutely glandular-denticulate, typically glabrous except the ciliolate margins, each with a short sheathing base ; scapes erect, typically solitary, stout, 30-100 cm. tall, rather copiously glandularpubescent, widely paniculate above; cymules aggregated into clusters terminating the inflorescence-branches; sepals ovate to halforbicular, about 2 mm. long, eciliate ; petals white, oval to suborbicular, 3.5-4 mm. long, clawless ; filaments subulate ; follicles 4-5 mm. long, green, the short stout tips spreading.
Type locality : Oregon and Washington. Distribution : Washington to California.

Leaves erect or ascending, 3.5-14 cm. long, the blades various, often ovoid-oval, narrowly oblong-lanceolate and spatulate on the same plant, entire or glandular-denticulate, often sparingly pubescent, especially about the veins beneath, narrowed to the broad partly sheathing bases ; scapes erect, typically solitary, or sometimes 2 or 3 together, stout, 28-60 cm. tall, finely glandular-pubescent throughout, paniculate above; cymules aggregated into clusters terminating the ascending or nearly erect branches of the inflorescence ; sepals ovate to triangular-ovate, 1-2 mm, long, 3-veined, eciliate ; petals greenish, nearly oblong or elliptic, mainly broadest above the middle, 1-2.5 mm. long, clawless ; filaments subulate ; follicles about 3 mm. high, green, the short stout tips spreading.
