Plants 0.5-3 dm. tall, the bulb-scales several-ribbed ; leaves over one half as tall as the scape, the petioles glabrous; leaflets 4-7, the blades 1-3 cm. long, or sometimes longer, cuneate, sometimes broadly so, prominently lobed, glabrous, bright-green, only slightly paler beneath than above, the lobes ovate, sometimes narrowly so ; scape glabrous ; cymes 3-9-flowered ; pedicels 1-2.5 cm. long, glabrous ; sepals oblong to oblong-ovate, 4.5-5.5 mm. long, glabrous, except sometimes for a tuft of hairs at the apex, each bearing 2 short apical tubercles; petals violet, 14-19 mm. long; filaments pubescent, unappendaged; styles pubescent ; capsules oblong, 6-7 mm. long.
Type locality: At the copper mines [Santa Rita], New Mexico. Distribution : New Mexico and northern Mexico.

Plants about 10 cm. tall, the bulb-scales many-ribbed; leaves much shorter than the
scape, the petioles very thick, glabrous; leaflets 4-6, the blades 8-14 mm. long, obcordate,
glabrous, bright-green, but slightly paler beneath than above, rather sharply notched at the apex ; scape glabrous ; cymes 4-7-flowered ; pedicels 2-3 cm. long, glabrous ; sepals oval or somewhat obovate, 6-7 mm. long, rounded or truncate at the apex, glabrous, purplemargined, each bearing 4, or sometimes apparently 3, short apical tubercles ; petals deeppurple above, paler near the base, 19-23 mm. long ; shorter and longer filaments pubescent, the latter each with an appendage on the back.
Type locality: Between Bolanos and Guadalajara, in the State of Zacatecas, Mexico.
Distribution : Known only from the type locality.

Plants 0.7-2 dm. tall, the bulb-scales several-ribbed; leaves much shorter than the scape, the petioles glabrous or nearly so ; leaflets 8-10, the blades cuneate, 2-3 cm. long, 2-lobed at the apex, the lobes oblong to ovate, much shorter than the body of the blade, bright-green, and sometimes purple-margined ; scape glabrous ; cymes 5-14-flowered ; pedicels 6-11 mm. long, glabrous; sepals oblong or nearly so, 3-3.5 mm. long, glabrous, each bearing 2 apical tubercles which are 2-lobed at the base; petals violet, 7-9 mm. long; filaments pubescent, unappendaged.
Type locality : Near Mexico City, Mexico.
Distribution* : Middle Mexico.

Plants 1-2.5 dm. tall, the bulb-scales many-ribbed; leaves nearly as tall as the scape or taller, the petioles glabrous ; leaflets 5-9, the blades 2.5-4.5 cm. long, elongate-cuneate or linear-cuneate, deeply lobed at the apex, glabrous, bright-green above, paler beneath, the lobes linear; scapes glabrous; cymes 3-9-flowered; pedicels 1-1.5 cm. long, glabrous; sepals narrowly oblong, 4-4.5 mm. long, glandular-pubescent, each bearing 2 short apical tubercles; petals violet, 10-13 mm. long ; filaments minutely pubescent, unappendaged.
Type locality : Near Guadalajara, Mexico. Distribution : Jalisco.

Type collected between Pachuea and Real del Monte, Hidalgo, Mexico, August 31, 1903, /. N. Rose &J. H. Painter 6705.
Distribution : Middle Mexico.
