moldenkei: after Harold Norman Moldenke (1909–1996), American botanist and taxonomist with particular expertise in Verbenaceae.

Small straggling shrub, up to c 1.5m tall. Branchlets slender with somewhat raised leafscars, bristly hairy, particularly when young, with tubercle-based, whitish, curved-appressed hairs and scattered sessile glands. Leaves mostly opposite, rarely 3-whorled, more or less broadly ovate to subrhombic or subcircular, 1-2.8 cm long, somewhat discolorous, shortly bristly with tubercule-based hairs and impressed venation above, paler and more densely whitish hairy with raised venation beneath; margin with 4-10 crenulate teeth; petiole 3-11 mm long. Inflorescences in solitairy, axillary subspherical spikes, up to 1 cm long; peduncles slender, as long or longer than the subtending leaf; bracts leaf-like, broadly elliptical bracts more or less densely hairy and with sessile glands. Flowers mauve, pink, lilac or pale violet, rarely almost white; corolla tube 5-7.5 mm long, well exceeding the bracts. Fruit a drupe, up to c. 3 × 4 cm, broader than long.

Restricted to Zimbabwe, where it is fairly widespread.
