Pseudo-nitzschia subpacifica is an oceanic warm water species. It can be found in the South China Sea in the late fall and early winter (Qi et al. 1994). It is abundant on the west coast of the United States in the summer and autumn (Fryxell et al. 1997). Present in low concentrations in Australian waters (Hallegraeff 1994). It has been reported from the Bay of Fundy, Canada (Kaczmarska et al. 2005) and the Chesapeake Bay (Marshall et al. 2005).
