Stems erect, decumbent or reclining, 1-4 dm. tall, densely pilose, with the hairs often somewhat retrorse, tufted on a slender woody fusiform root; leaflets bright-green, the blades 7-17 mm. broad, closely or sparingly pubescent on both surfaces and ciliate ; peduncles somewhat longer than the petioles or occasionally shorter ; pedicels hirsute, refracted in fruit; sepals 4.5-6 mm. long at maturity; petals deep-yellow, 8-12 mm. long ; longer filaments glabrous ; capsules columnar, stoutish, 13-18 mm. long, finely hirsute, rather abruptly narrowed at the apex.
Type locality : Santa Barbara, California. Distribution : California, Arizona, and Sonora.
