體長圓而側扁。頭大。吻長。眼大。D. VI-I，9；A. II，8；Lb.
25；Tr. 2/6 ；Pred.S. 7-8 ；GR.
(0-1)1-2+1+6-7(3-4)。活魚體色透明而具二條灰色狹帶，然除了眼到胸鰭基底和尾柄的部份外，大部份狹帶色淡或不明顯。死後體色變紅，而狹帶呈灰黑色。

Voorkoms
Die vis is rooi van kleur met drie donker breë strepe op die lyf; die middel streep strek van die oog tot by die stertvin, die onderste streep strek van die oog tot by die basis van die analevin en die boonste streep van die kop tot tussen die dorsale en stertvinne. Die vis word tot 7 cm groot.
Habitat
Die vis leef in koraalriwwe in water wat 3 – 50 cm diep is.

Apogon semiornatus, the oblique-banded cardinalfish, is a translucent fish with one main stripe (usually red) and little to no smaller stripes; stripe-free individuals have also been found. This fish lives in the Indo-West Pacific Ocean, in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Oman, east to Australia, north to Japan, south to Natal, and in the waters around South Africa. This fish naturally lives in rocky and rubble reefs and displays secretive behavior by preferring to remain under pieces of material or in the back of low caves. These fish can live alone but are sometimes found in small groups.[1][2]
