Characterized by generally greyish brown color with irregular greenish-brown bars and narrow pale spaces between; large black spots on side , mid-lateral row; head with pink spots; head and body with blue dots; united pelvic fins, presence of frenum; longitudinal scale series 56-65; head without scales; greatest depth of body 4.3 in SL; rounded caudal fin, about equal to head length (Ref. 90102).

第一背鰭：Ⅵ；第二背鰭：Ⅰ, 9~10；臀鰭：Ⅰ,
9~10；胸鰭：16~17。縱列鱗
54~61。背鰭前鱗0。體延長，前呈圓筒型，後側扁。標準體長為魚體高的4.5倍；為頭長的3.2倍。第一背鰭與第二背鰭略等高，第二、第三鰭棘較長；尾鰭圓形，約與頭長等長；兩腹鰭癒合成一吸盤，末端延長到肛門位置。體呈暗灰色，頭部、頰部及鰓蓋骨散布暗紅色斑。體側中部具5個黑色橫斑，第1個橫斑剛好位於身體中心軸上；體側另具有不太明顯的暗色橫帶及散具一些黑色小點。第一背鰭及第二背鰭均具點狀縱紋；臀鰭鰭膜上具5條由前向後的斜紋；尾鰭散在小斑點。過去所記錄的/Cryptocentrus
