體延長而側扁。頭小。眼小，吻端扁平。體被圓鱗，側線鱗48-50枚。第一鰓弓鰓耙數39-48枝。胸鰭鰭條15-16根，其中13根延長特化並向前延伸，腹鰭以及尾鰭鰭條下半部延長，長度約等於標準體長，並形成類似三角架的構造支撐。各鰭均無硬棘，背鰭軟條13，臀鰭軟條11。體色為深褐色至黑色，頭部顏色略呈深藍色。

Vissen Bathypterois guentheri is een straalvinnige vissensoort uit de familie van netoogvissen (Ipnopidae).[1] De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1889 door Alcock.

Bathypterois guentheri – gatunek ryby z rodziny Ipnopidae. Nazwa gatunkowa honoruje Albrechta Karla Ludwiga Gotthilfa Günthera (1830–1914), niemiecko-brytyjskiego ichtiologa[2].
Ryby tego gatunku osiągają 26 cm standardowej długości[3]. Głowa ryby jest granatowoczarna, reszta ciała biaława z dwoma ciemnymi paskami. Występuje na głębokościach 800–1500 m[4]. Spotykana w zachodniej części Pacyfiku, od wybrzeży wschodniej Afryki (22°–33°S) po północno-wschodnią część Oceanu Indyjskiego i południowe wybrzeża Japonii[5].
