Males can reach a maximum total length of 42 cm (17 in; 1.38 ft).[4]
The hardtail conger feeds on other conger eels.[7] Due to its widespread distribution, lack of known threats, and lack of observed population decline, the IUCN redlist currently lists the hardtail conger as Least Concern.[6]

Gnathophis cinctus is een straalvinnige vissensoort uit de familie van zeepalingen (Congridae).[2] De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1899 door Garman.
De soort staat op de Rode Lijst van de IUCN als niet bedreigd, beoordelingsjaar 2007.[1]
