身體極度延長呈細圓柱狀，尾部側扁，頭部及身體呈淡褐色，全長為鰓孔位體高及肛門位體高之72.5-88.9及96.0-119.8倍；肛門約位於全長中點之前；尾長適度延長，其長度小於肛門前長的2倍；尾端較硬，不易彎折，尾部末端鰭條極度退化，肉眼幾乎無法看見；背鰭起點略後於胸鰭基部；奇鰭幾乎為透明，具黑色及白色邊緣，鰭條不分節；胸鰭退化呈半透明，位於體高中點；活體時感覺孔周圍具白色斑；鰓孔小；全長為頭長之21.4-30.3倍，吻端短呈圓鈍狀，口裂上傾，末端約位於眼睛水平中點下方，下顎略長於上顎，吻長小於眼直徑，吻長為眼直徑之0.6-0.8倍；眼睛大，約占頭長的18-20
%；嘴唇發達，具上、下反摺之游離唇瓣；前鼻孔為短管狀，鑲嵌於上唇前端，後鼻孔為圓形。前鰓顎有9-10個感覺孔，顳骨接合處有6個感覺孔；肛門前背鰭鰭條數為168ca.-232；背鰭前側線孔數4-5，胸鰭前側線孔數4，肛門前側線孔數34；背鰭前脊椎骨數5-9，肛門前脊椎骨數65，血管閉合處前脊椎骨數74ca.-77，總脊椎骨數169-178。Shao

The Pacific spaghetti eel[1] (Gorgasia japonica) is a sand dwelling eel in the family Congridae (conger/garden eels).[2] It was described by Tokiharu Abe, M. Miki and Minoru Asai in 1977.[3] It is a marine, temperate water-dwelling eel which is known from the northwestern and southwestern Pacific Ocean, including Japan (from which its species epithet is derived) and New Zealand. It dwells at a maximum depth of 30 metres (98 ft). It is non-migratory, and inhabits sand flats near reefs. Males can reach a maximum total length of 100 centimetres (39 in); the diameter of the body is approximately 10 millimetres.[2] Spaghetti eels will typically occur in large groups that can consist of hundreds of eels.
The Pacific spaghetti eel's diet consists of zooplankton.[4]

Vissen Gorgasia japonica is een straalvinnige vissensoort uit de familie van de zeepalingen (Congridae).[1] De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1977 door Abe, Miki & Asai.

二名法 Gorgasia japonicaAbe, Miki & Asai, 1977 日本園鰻，俗名花園鰻，為輻鰭魚綱鰻鱺目糯鰻亞目糯鰻科的其中一個種。
分布
本魚分布於西北太平洋區，包括日本的八丈島及八丈小島和台灣南部、綠島及蘭嶼海域、西南太平洋的紐西蘭。
深度
水深14至22公尺。
特徵
本魚體極度延長呈管狀，口小，胸鰭短。魚體呈茶褐色，從頭至尾具有一列白色斑點，身體末端具有黑色的邊緣。側線孔29至35個。體長可達100公分。
生態
本魚性情害羞膽小，躲於偶有強烈水流的礁沙混合區的沙地中，只露出身體身體前半部於水層中，頂著潮流的方向，攫取水流帶來的生物，遇大型生物經過時則全身沒入沙中躲藏。
經濟利用
非食用魚，但可作為觀賞魚之用。
