Banisteria obovata Small, sp. nov
Leaf-blades obovate, sometimes rather narrowly so, 7-16 cm. long, mucronate, rounded
or retuse at the apex, glabrous and smooth above, at least in age, lustrous-pubescent beneath,
abruptly narrowed or rounded at the base, rather short-petioled ; sepals oblong, 2.5-3 mm.
long, the glands small, scarcely one half as long as the sepal-body; petals not seen; samaras 4^.5 cm. long, the wing brown-sericeous, slightly dilated above, not auricled at the base, the body crownless.
Type collected in Costa Rica, February, 1900, Ad. Tonduz 1347S (U. S. Nat. Herb. 577723). Distribution : Costa Rica and Salvador.

Banisteria kuntzei Small
Spachea sericea Kuntze, Rev. Gen. PI. 1 : 68. 1891. Not Banisteria sericea Cav. 1790.
Leaf-blades oblong-elliptic or oblong-lanceolate, 3-8 cm. long, acute or slightly acuminate, deep-green and glabrous above, sericeous beneath, acute or obtuse at the base, short-petioled ; sepals ovate, 3-3.5 mm. long, the glands small, about one half the length of the sepal-body ; petals yellow ; mature samaras not seen.
Type locality : Panama.
Distribution : Known only from the type locality.
