Adelpha bredowii resident to the coastal western United States from southern Calif. to Wa., and to Southwestern Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. It is somewhat migratory straying into Washington, southern Colorado and Kansas (Scott 1986). Habitats are upper Sonoran to transition zone lower mountains near oaks. Host plants are trees restricted to species in family Fagaceae, especially in genus Quercus. Eggs are laid on the host plant singly. Individuals overwinter as larvae. There are multiple flights each year with the approximate flight time June 1-Aug. 31 in the northern part of the range, and April 1-October 31 southward (Scott 1986). Some sources synonymize this species with Limenitis bredowii

Adults feed on fruit, mud, aphid honeydew and sometimes flower nectar. Males both perch and patrol for females (Scott, 1986).
