This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following characters: maxillary long and wide (vs. very short and round in bleheri and short in rhodostoma); premaxillary teeth in a single row (vs. two in bleheri, rhodostoma); dentary with 9-11 teeth with 5 cuspids (vs. 6, with 6-7 cuspids, followed by 1 or 2 tricuspidate ones in bleheri, and 5-6 with 5 cuspids, usually followed by 4 conical teeth in rhodostoma); black spot on lower posterior border of caudal peduncle absent (vs. present in bleheri, rhodostoma) (Ref. 127081)

Petitella georgiae, the false rummy-nose tetra, is a species of characin found in Amazon Basin in Brazil and Peru. It is a very popular aquarium fish. It is the sole member of its genus, but resembles two species from another genus, Hemigrammus bleheri and H. rhodostomus. It is distributed in the upper Amazon basin in Peru, Rio Purus, Rio Negro, and Rio Madeira basins (which has been found in an aquarium fish import from Peru in the late 1950s in Switzerland by H. Boutiere). Some specimens classified as P. georgiae have a black stripe in the caudal peduncle extending forwards into the body, surmounted above by a thin iridescent gold line.

Morfología

Los machos pueden llegar alcanzar los 3,9 cm de longitud total.[1]

Alimentación

Hábitat

Vive en zonas de clima tropical entre 22°C - 26°C de temperatura.

Distribución geográfica

Se encuentran en Sudamérica: cuencas de los ríos Amazonas (Perú), Puru, Negro y Madeira.
