Acanthobrama telavivensis, commonly known as the Yarkon bream or Yarkon bleak, is a species of freshwater ray-finned fish of the family Cyprinidae found only in Israel, in the Yarkon River system.
The silver fish, which grows to a length of 20 centimetres (7.9 in), was reintroduced to the Afek springs and Ein Nymphit by the Israel Nature Preservation Authority.[2][3]
Throughout 1950 to 1970, there was a very sharp decline in the species population. The population was stable until a drought in 1999 which made it near-extinct.[4] The remaining individuals were taken and bred in captivity. In 2006, these fish were re-introduced to 12 rehabilitated sites in its previous range. Since then, large populations of various sizes and ages have been found in these areas. According to the authority's chief ecologist, this shows that efforts to rehabilitate the river have succeeded. Yarkon Bleak preservation efforts began in 1999, when the population dropped to only a few hundred. The project was a joint endeavor of the Yarkon River Authority, Tel Aviv University and the Israel Nature and National Parks Authority. The fish were transferred to special breeding pools at the university's zoological park, and an attempt was made to reintroduce them to the river in 2002 with little success. The scientists involved believed that this was because of a lack of suitable spawning sites, they built a pond filled with gravel and vegetation and soon there were many juvenile fish seen.[5] In 2005, a second attempt to reintroduce them to the upper part of the river was reportedly more successful, following engineering to create suitable spawning sites[5][6] In 2014, the IUCN declared this species sufficiently 'wild' (i.e. no direct intervention) to remove it from its "Extinct in the Wild" category, and is now considered "Vulnerable".[1]

Acanthobrama telavivensis, communément appelé Ablette du Yarkon, est une espèce de poissons osseux de la famille des Cyprinidae. Décrite en 1973 et considérée en 2006 comme éteinte à l'état naturel, elle est progressivement réintroduite dans les rivières côtières en Israël d'où elle est endémique. L'épithète telavivensis fait référence à la plus grande ville du pays, Tel Aviv.
Acanthobrama telavivensis is een straalvinnige vissensoort uit de familie van eigenlijke karpers (Cyprinidae).[2] De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1973 door Goren, Fishelson & Trewavas.
De soort stond op de Rode Lijst van de IUCN als uitgestorven in het wild, beoordelingsjaar 2006. Na een succesvolle uitzetting van gefokte exemplaren, werd de soort in 2014 beoordeeld als kwetsbaar.[1]

Devido a destruição do habitat esta espécie encontra-se na lista vermelha da IUCN como sendo vulnerável.[2]
O peixe que povoava todos os rios de Israel tornou-se quase extinto devido a sua intolerância à poluição. Em 2012, a Autoridade do Rio Yarkon relatou seu reaparecimento. De acordo com o ecologista chefe da autoridade, isso mostra que os esforços para reabilitar o rio foram bem sucedidos. Os esforços para preservação da espécie começaram em 1999, quando a população caiu para apenas algumas centenas. O projeto foi um esforço conjunto da Autoridade do rio Yarkon, da Universidade de Tel Aviv, da Autoridade Nacional de Parques e da natureza de Israel. Os peixes foram transferidos para piscinas especiais de reprodução do parque zoológico da universidade sendo foi feita uma tentativa para reintroduzí-los no rio em 2002. Em 2005, uma segunda tentativa na parte superior do rio teria sido mais bem-sucedida.[3]
