Colonies. On 2% malt extract agar growing moderately, attaining 70 mm diam. in 14 days at 24°C (but with no growth at 37°C), woolly, chalky white, about 5 mm deep with a colourless reverse; aerial mycelium composed of branched, septate, smooth colourless hyphae, 2-3 μm diam.; producing "chlamydospores" singly, laterally, terminally, or in an intercalary position on the aerial mycelium, the "chlamydospores" (which possibly constitute a conidial state) being aseptate, colourless, globose to subglobose, ovate, and often elongated, 7-15 × 7-14 μm, with walls 1-1.5 μm thick. Ascomata. Dispersed, superficial, smooth, spherical to subspherical, non-ostiolate, 200-300 μm diam., with a translucent, 4-6 μm thick wall composed of 2-3 layers of flattened, light brown cells 3-5 μm wide forming a textura epidermoidea. Asci. Broad clavate to subglobose, stalked, 8-spored, 21-28 × 13-19 μm, evanescent when spores have formed. Ascospores. Ellipsoidal to broadly fusiform, dark brown, 9-12.5 × (5) 6-7 μm with a very conspicuous subapical, round germ pore of 1 μm diam.
