They are native to Puerto Rico, Eastern North America, Pacific Basin excluding Hawaii, U.S. Virgin Islands, and The Contiguous United States. They have drupes. Flowers are visited by Bicyrtes quadrifasciatus, Lasioglossum tarponense, Agapostemon splendens, and Honey bee.
