Description: Characterized by the following: red to silvery color; pectoral fins bright yellow; black spot at base of pelvic fins; soft portion of dorsal fin slightly taller than spinous portion, rounded posteriorly; truncate to very slightly emarginate caudal fin; poorly developed preopercular spine, inconspicuous in adult (Ref. 90102).

體略高，側扁，呈長卵圓形；體最高處位於背鰭第VI棘附近。眼特大，瞳孔大半位於體中線下方。吻短。口裂大，近乎垂直；下頜突出，頜骨、鋤骨和腭骨均具齒。前鰓骨後緣及下緣具鋸齒並具有一枚後向之長強棘。鰓耙總數25-28。頭及體部皆被有粗糙堅實不易脫落之櫛鱗；側線完全，側線鱗孔數61-64。背鰭單一，不具深缺，具硬棘X棘，軟條13-14；臀鰭與背鰭幾相對，具硬棘III，軟條14-15；背鰭及臀鰭後端圓形；胸鰭短小；腹鰭中長，短於頭長；尾鰭截形。體銀粉紅色至紅色；背鰭硬棘部前端不具黑色斑塊；腹鰭鰭膜全黑；胸鰭鮮黃色；餘鰭一致淡紅色。
棲地

主要棲息於四週有沙泥的礁石附近。夜行性魚類，平常躲在礁石下的洞穴中或是其他比較陰暗的地方，到了晚上再游到水層中找尋食物，主要以小魚、蝦、蟹或一些小型的頭足類，屬肉食性魚類。
