Fishbase
(fishbase)

FishBase is a Biodiversity Information System with all you ever wanted to know about finfishes. FishBase caters information to different professionals such as research scientists, fisheries managers, biodiversity managers, etc., and also to students and the general public. The FishBase website displays data on practically every fish species known to science. The project started in 1990 in ICLARM (International Center for Living Aquatic Resource Management, now called the WorldFish Center) in collaboration with FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) and was further developed with many other partners, in particular with the help of the independent Catalog of Fishes (California Academy of Science, W.N. Eschmeyer), and with the main support from the European Commission. Today, FishBase is maintained and developed in FIN (FishBase Information and Research Group, a Philippine NGO) under the scientific steering of the FishBase Consortium that gathers 9 institutions around the world. http://www.fishbase.org/
