Disc Flounder

Distinguished by cycloid scales on the ocular side, except for upper and lower margins of body, and a shorter lower jaw (2.3 to 2.9 times in head length). Body almost circular in shape in young, becoming ovate with growth.

廣泛分布於印度-西太平洋區，西至莫三比克，東至菲律賓，北至日本，南至羅得豪島。台灣各地海域皆可見。

春季和秋季是主要的漁獲季節，漁民通常是用底拖網或底流刺網捕捉，但因為它們魚體不大，大部分加工作扁魚酥，少部分體型較大者，則用油煎的方法來食用。

體卵圓形，兩眼均在左側；背緣呈弧形。吻略長。眼小，眼間隔極寬且凹陷。口小或中大；上頜骨較短，僅延伸至下眼前緣前方；上下頜具二行或更多尖銳錐狀齒；腭骨無齒。鰓膜不與峽部相連；鰓耙尖形不呈鋸齒狀。眼側除背腹緣被櫛鱗外，皆被圓鱗，盲側被圓鱗；背鰭與臀鰭鰭條均被鱗；眼側具側線，盲側無側線；側線鱗數74-108。背鰭鰭條正常，具軟條數87-97；臀鰭鰭條正常，具軟條數61-73；胸鰭延長，特別是雄魚；尾鰭圓形。眼側體棕色或暗灰色，有自多具淡棕色環紋，背及臀鰭具暗斑，尾鰭具黑緣；盲側前半部乳黃色，後半部暗褐色，雄魚於具許多暗色橫波紋，雌魚較不明顯，幼魚則全無。

是一種非常普遍的魚類，屬沿岸底棲魚類，常出沒於礁區和砂泥的交接處，有時可發現它在礁區中。典型的肉食主義者，以底棲無脊椎動物或小魚為食物。
