體延長而側扁，向後漸細小。頭較小，吻亦較短而鈍。眼較小，上側位。下頜無鬚。體被圓鱗，易脫落。第一背鰭7-8軟條，第二背鰭66-68軟條；臀鰭64-66軟條；第二背鰭起點約略同時臀鰭起點；腹鰭外側具2絲狀延長軟條，約與頭長等長或稍長。腹面正中的發光器為一小黑點，至肛門距離比距腹鰭基底為近。體褐色，腹面黑色或藍黑色。
棲地

主要棲息於400-760公尺深的泥砂地水域。深海底棲性之魚類，以底棲甲殼類為食，生態習性並不十分明瞭。

Vissen Gadella jordani is een straalvinnige vissensoort uit de familie van de diepzeekabeljauwen (Moridae).[1] De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1951 door Böhlke & Mead.
