Body fairly deep; 26 to 29 scutes along belly. A single triangular pectoral axillary scale; depressed tip of dorsal fin to behind vertical from anal fin origin. Hind margin of scales smooth. Dark blotch behind gill opening, often followed by a series of spots along flank. Gill rakers fine and numerous, increasing with size of fish (100 to 280 at 4 to 16 cm standard length).

Gudusia chapra és una espècie de peix pertanyent a la família dels clupèids[4] present a l'Índia, Bangladesh, el Nepal i el Pakistan, incloent-hi els rius Ganges i el Brahmaputra.[5] És un peix d'aigua dolça, pelàgic, potamòdrom[6] i de clima subtropical (30°N-17°N).[5] Pot arribar a fer 20 cm de llargària màxima.[5][7] Les seues principals amenaces són la sobrepesca i la sedimentació causada per la desforestació i les pràctiques agrícoles locals.[8] És inofensiu per als humans.[5]
