Ptychochromis curvidens Stiassny & Sparks 2006

It is distinguished from all congeners by the presence of a characteristically robust and strongly recurved oral dentition (Ref. 57663). An extremely deep-bodied and robust species, rather less laterally compressed than other members of the genus (Ref. 57663). Coloration in life: body dark golden-green dorsal of midline, and bright, iridescent golden below; no distinctive lateral markings; unpaired fins dusky charcoal gray, membranes grayish to hyaline, pelvic fins hyaline proximal to base, blackish distally, and pectoral fins bright yellowish-orange (Ref. 57663). Ground coloration in preservative is dark brownish-green

Ptychochromis curvidens is an endangered species of fish in the cichlid family. It is endemic to a few rivers that flow west from Montagne d'Ambre in far northern Madagascar. It is threatened by habitat loss and introduced species. It reaches about 14.7 cm (5.8 in) in standard length.
