Description: English: Introduced cool-season perennial tufted sedge, with a short thick rhizome and 3-sided stems that have a bulbous base and are 5–60 cm tall. Leaves are mostly shorter than the stems and 1–6 mm wide. Flowerheads are simple, with 3–6 dense spikes either sessile or rarely on short branches to 1.5 cm long; spikes are ovoid to oblong-cylindrical and 1–3 cm long. Spikelets are subterete, numerous per spike, 3–6 mm long and 1–3-flowered. Glumes are whitish to yellow-brown. Flowering is from spring to summer. A weed of lighter soils.
