Dicranoweisia indica Paris 1896

Plants small, up to 1.5 cm high, dull green to yellowish or dark brown, in dense tufts. Stems erect or ascending, often simple, incurved or curled when dry. Leaves up to 5 mm long, oblong-ovate at the base, gradually tapered to canaliculate, incurved subulate tips, often acute; margins entire, incurved above the middle, pointed with a single cell; costa brownish, percurrent; upper cells quadrate to shortly rectangular, 6–11 µm × 6–7 µm, somewhat thick-walled, with single marginal row near the apex; basal cells rectangular, 40–50 µm × 6–9 µm, slightly wider near costa, narrower close to margins; alar cells quadrate, deep brownish, not extending close to costa. Autoicous. Perichaetial leaves erect, not clearly differentiated, similar to the upper stem leaves with longer sheathing base. Setae straight, brownish, ca. 10 mm long; capsules ovoid to shortly cylindric, brown, wider at the base, urns ca. 2.0 mm × 0.5 mm. Spores not seen.

Distribution: China and India.

Habitat: on soil, rocks, rarely on bases of trees in forests.
