Selene brevoortii és una espècie de peix de la família dels caràngids i de l'ordre dels perciformes.

Morfologia

Els mascles poden assolir els 38 cm de longitud total.^[2]

Distribució geogràfica

Es troba des del sud de la Baixa Califòrnia (Mèxic) fins a l'Equador.^[2]

Selene brevoortii, the hairfin look down, also known as the airfin lookdown, Mexican lookdown or Pacific lookdown,^[3] is a species of carangid fish native to warmer parts of the East Pacific where it is found from southernmost California, United States to northern Peru (occasionally south as far as Chile).^[1] This species is generally found close to the coast at depths of less than 50 m (160 ft). They grow to 38 cm (15 in) in fork length. It is of minor importance to local commercial fisheries, but is popular as a gamefish.^[2] Its specific name honours the American book collector, numismatist, amateur naturalist and friend of Theodore N. Gills J. Carson Brevoort (1817-1887) for his interest in the fishes of the family Carangidae.^[4]

Selene brevoortii est une espèce de poissons de la famille des Carangidés présente dans l'est du Pacifique.

Selene brevoortii is een straalvinnige vissensoort uit de familie van horsmakrelen (Carangidae).^[2] De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1863 door Gill.

De soort staat op de Rode Lijst van de IUCN als niet bedreigd, beoordelingsjaar 2008.^[1]
