Dorsal fin membranes not incised; second and third spines not especially elongate relative to the succeeding ones. Third infraorbital bone with a lump on lateral face. Minute stubby papillae covering premaxillary and anterior part of lower jaw (Ref. 35987).

體長橢圓形，側扁。頭中大。眼中大。吻長大於眼徑。淚骨外側具1棘，第一眶下骨具1棘；前鰓蓋骨後緣具5棘。口略小，斜裂，下頜略突出於上頜。頭、體皆無鱗片。背鰭起點延伸至眼上方，硬棘粗長，一般具XVI-XVII，背鰭第I棘短小；第II棘和第III棘最長，各棘間之鰭膜具淺缺刻，前方數棘間之鰭膜約略僅有2/3硬棘長，軟條7-9；臀鰭硬棘III，軟條5-7；胸鰭略短，無游離鰭條，後端只可達肛門處，鰭條12-13。體及各鰭一致為粉紅色，體側具5個大斑紋；頭部眼至下頷端位、前鰓蓋骨上棘與眼間距各具1輻狀條紋；背鰭與臀鰭上則散布小斑點，胸鰭基部、端部及腹鰭與尾鰭暗紅色。(李承運、林沛立2012/11編寫)

棲息於大陸棚邊緣軟質底部。具偽裝能力，時常隱藏身體而不容易被發現，藉以守株待兔般快速捕捉過往之小魚與甲殼動物為食。背鰭鰭棘下具毒腺，是海中危險生物。

Ocosia vespa és una espècie de peix pertanyent a la família dels tetrarògids i a l'ordre dels escorpeniformes.[3][4]
Descripció
Fa 8 cm de llargària màxima.[5] 15-17 espines i 7-9 radis tous a l'única aleta dorsal. 3 espines i 4-6 radis tous a l'anal. 27-29 vèrtebres. Presència d'espines a la superfície lateral de l'os lacrimal, però no en té cap a la superfície lateral del primer os suborbital.[6] Membranes de l'aleta dorsal sense incisions i amb la segona i tercera espines no excepcionalment allargades en relació a les següents. Tercer os infraorbital amb una mena d'excrescència a l'àrea lateral. Papil·les diminutes cobrint part de la premaxil·la i la part anterior de la mandíbula inferior.[7] Línia lateral contínua i amb 12-18 escates. 8-12 branquiespines (5-8 a la part inferior i 3-4 a la superior). Absència d'aleta adiposa. Aletes pectorals amb cap espina i 12-13 radis tous.[8]
Alimentació
El seu nivell tròfic és de 3,48.[9]
Hàbitat i distribució geogràfica
És un peix marí, demersal (entre 75 i 91 m de fondària)[6] i de clima temperat,[10] el qual viu al Pacífic nord-occidental:[5] les vores continentals[10] del Japó,[5][11][12][13][14][15] el mar de la Xina Meridional[16][17] i Taiwan.[18][16][19][2]
Observacions
És inofensiu per als humans[10] i el seu índex de vulnerabilitat és de baix a moderat (29 de 100).[20]

Vissen Ocosia vespa is een straalvinnige vissensoort uit de familie van napoleonvissen (Tetrarogidae).[1] De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1904 door Jordan & Starks.
