Der Braunkopf-Feinsänger (Apalis alticola) ist ein kleiner Singvogel aus der Gattung der Feinsänger innerhalb der Familie der Halmsängerartigen. Früher wurde er als Unterart des Graurücken-Feinsängers (A. cinerea) angesehen. Es gibt zwei Unterarten: A. a. alticola und A. a. dowsetti.

Beschreibung

Der Braunkopf-Feinsänger erreicht eine Länge von 12 bis 13 Zentimetern. Er hat einen langen Schwanz und einen ziemlich langen, dünnen Schnabel. Die Beine und Füße sind rosa und die Augen sind hellgelb. Die Oberseite ist graubraun. Oberkopf und Wangen sind schokoladenbraun. Die Unterseite ist weißlich. Die Geschlechter sehen gleich aus. Die juvenilen Vögel sind an der Oberseite mehr olivfarben und an der Unterseite weißlich. Bei der Rasse A. a. alticola weisen die Schwanzfedern weiße Spitzen auf. Bei der Unterart A. a. dowsetti sind die äußeren Schwanzfedern vollständig weiß. Der Graurücken-Feinsänger hat im Vergleich einen graubraunen Kopf und dunkle Augen. Der Gesang des Braunkopf-Feinsängers besteht aus einer Serie von schrillen chip-Tönen.

Verbreitung

Die Unterart A. a. alticola kommt in Teilen Angolas, Sambias, Malawis, im Süden der Demokratischen Republik Kongo, in Tansania und im Nguruman-Escarpment am Westrand des Rift Valley im südlichen Kenia vor. Das Vorkommen von A. a. dowsetti ist auf das Marungu-Plateau in der Demokratischen Republik Kongo beschränkt.

Lebensraum und Lebensweise

Der Braunkopf-Feinsänger bewohnt Waldränder und Sekundärwälder in mittleren und hohen Höhenlagen. Bei der Nahrungssuche ist er häufig paarweise, in kleinen Trupps oder in gemischten Vogelschwärmen anzutreffen. Seine Nahrung besteht aus Insekten.

The brown-headed apalis (Apalis alticola) is a small passerine bird belonging to the genus Apalis in the family Cisticolidae. Formerly included within the grey apalis (A. cinerea) but is now commonly considered to be a separate species. It has two subspecies: A. a. alticola and A. a. dowsetti

Description

It is 12–13 cm long with a long tail and fairly long, slender bill. The legs and feet are pinkish and the eye is pale orange. The upperparts are grey-brown, becoming chocolate-brown on the crown and cheeks. The underparts are whitish. The adult male and female are alike; juvenile birds are more olive above and slightly yellowish below. In A. a. alticola, the outer tail-feathers have white tips and outer webs and the next three pairs of tail-feathers have small white tips. A. a. dowsetti has entirely white outer tail-feathers.

The grey apalis is similar but has a grey-brown head and dark eye. The outer tail-feathers are white like those of A. a. dowsetti but it does not overlap in range with that subspecies.

The song of the brown-headed apalis is a series of loud, high-pitched "chip" notes.

Distribution and habitat

It has a patchy distribution in central and east Africa. It inhabits forest and secondary growth at mid to high altitudes. It is often seen in pairs or small groups and frequently joins other bird species in mixed-species feeding flocks. A. a. alticola occurs in parts of Angola, Zambia, Malawi, south-eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania and the Nguruman Escarpment in southern Kenya. In locations where its range overlaps with the grey apalis, it is restricted to the forest edge. A. a. dowsetti is found only on the Marungu plateau in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

El apalis cabecipardo (Apalis alticola)^[2]​ es una especie de ave paseriforme de la familia Cisticolidae propia del sur de África central y la región de los Grandes Lagos de África.

Descripción

Mide entre 12–13 cm de largo, incluida su larga cola. El plumaje de sus partes superiores es de color pardo grisáceo, salvo la parte superior de la cabeza que es de color castaño. En cambio sus partes inferiores son blanquecinas. Su pico negro es bastante largo y ligeramente curvado hacia abajo. Sus patas son rosadas y sus ojos anaranjados claros. Ambos sexos tienen un aspecto similar, pero los juveniles son de tonos más oliváceos en las partes superiores y ligeramente amarillentos en las inferiores.

En la subespecie A. a. alticola las puntas de las plumas exteriores son blancas y los tres pares siguientes tiene puntas blancas más finas. La subespecie A. a. dowsetti tiene las plumas exteriores totalmente blancas.

El apalis cabecipardo es similar al apalis gris, pero este tiene la cabeza grisácea y los ojos oscuros. Tiene las plumas exteriores de la cola blancas como las de A. a. dowsetti pero su área de distribución no solapa con las de esta subespecie.

El canto de apalis cabecipardo consiste en una serie de notas agudas de tipo «chip».

Taxonomía

Fue descrito científicamente en 1899 por el ornitólogo inglés George Ernest Shelley. Anteriormente fue considerado una subespecie del apalis gris, pero en la actualidad se consideran especies separadas.

Se reconocen dos subespecies:^[3]​

• A. a. alticola (Shelley, 1899) - se encuentra en partes de Angola, Zambia, Malaui, el sureste de la República Democrática del Congo, Tanzania y el escarpe Nguruman, en el sur de Kenia.
• A. a. dowsetti Prigogine, 1973 - se localiza solo en la meseta Marungu en la República Democrática del Congo.

Distribución y hábitat

Se distribuye fragmentariamente por el sur de África central y la región de los Grandes Lagos. Habita en los bosques de altitudes medianas y altas. Suele encontrarse en parejas o en pequeños grupos.

En los lugares donde coincide con el apalis gris, se restringe al límite del bosque.

Ruskopääapali (Apalis cinerea)^[1] on herttujen heimoon kuuluva varpuslintu. Siniselkäapalia pidettiin aikaisemmin omana lajinaan, mutta sittemmin lajit on yhdistetty. Ruskopääapalia tavataan Angolassa, Kongon demokraattisessa tasavallassa, Sambiassa, Malawissa, Tansaniassa ja Keniassa.^[2]
